"Its our understanding Tom intends to seek a position on the competitive side of football, as a coach, general manager or administrator," CFL commissioner Mark Cohon said in a statement. "We thank him for his efforts and wish him the very best in his future endeavours." Higgins became the CFLs director of officiating April 15 2008. Prior to joining the leagues head office, Higgins spent more than 25 years as a player, coach and personnel director. Twice he was named the CFLs coach of the year and in 03 led the Edmonton Eskimos to a Grey Cup title as the clubs head coach. "Toms tenure as director of officiating has seen the introduction of many improvements and innovations from the debut of the Command Centre for video review to the introduction of position coaches to the addition of a co-ordinator for the development of amateur officials," Cohon said.

Jones, the top-ranked prospect by NHL Central Scouting, surprisingly ended up slipping to fourth overall where he was taken by the Nashville Predators. You definitely want to show them why they should have picked you. Thats not my only goal next year but its definitely on my list." The Philadelphia Flyers chose defenceman Sam Morin of the Rimouski Oceanic 11th. Max Domi, the son of former NHLer Tie Domi, was selected 12th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes. The Columbus Blue Jackets used their first of three first round selections on Swedish centre Alex Wennberg at 14th overall. The followed that pick with Kerby Rychel at 19 and Marko Dano 27th overall.
