Each hand-crafted custom uses a classic black/white canvas runningomg.com for its base, then adds bright orange Jazz Stripes and orange/black laces that can be wrapped around the high-cut collar of the Sk8-Hi if the wearer so chooses. A split Olde English C that flips between white and metallic silver appears on the heel, giving each shoe its moniker. More special branded embellishments are then present on the lateral midfoot, where a silver Olde English Coutié text logo sits above blocky white text that states “Spring/Summer 2020, Germany.” Vulcanized sail midsoles and gum outsoles complete the look.
Clad in Black and Navy, this Vans Shoes Red collaborative pair falls inline with mainstays of the California-institution, but further inspection indicates otherwise. Leather on the toe box and lace guards mirror punk-favorite jackets, while light and dark denim midfoot and heel panels nod to skinny jeans. Scuffed profile jazz stripes further mimic lived-in clothing popular in punk’s early scene, but the “16.08.1974” date on the midsole reveals this Sk8-Hi as a specific tribute to The Ramones. Elsewhere, striping on the White tongue rounds out this first “Dawn Of Punk” release as it matches the t-shirts worn by the band during their first public gig at New York City’s CBGB.
The former is Taka Hayashi x Vans SK8 Lo Reissue Lx Black in a rich midnight teal tone, detailed with thin white top-stitching throughout the body. Starting at the top of the shoe, Vans’ woven patch logo at the tongue is etched with “NOAH” branding, complemented by a small “Vans” tab that sits at the lateral side of the collars. Sleek canvas piping appears along the collars, working its way over to the forefoot and ending at the throat line. Accented against its teal base, crisp white laces are fed through silver-toned eyelets, contrasting the stitched outlines of Vans’ side stripes. Rounding up the details is a black midsole that comes with the classic red heel tab. The “Tobacco” colorway is the light brown counterpart to the “Petrol” colorway: it comes with all the same design cues as the aforementioned sneaker, except for its brown palette. White laces pop from its chestnut amber uppers, complete with a white midsole for a warm, clean look.
